Since 1954, Atlas has served industrial, manufacturing, governmental and railroad clients in the Class I, short line, regional and transit sectors. Assistant Vice President of Operations Summary: Manages all aspects of operations for national railroad construction company with revenues in excess of $50 million and 250 employees. Directs and coordinates activities to obtain efficiency and economy of operations to maximize profits by performing the following duties: Responsibilities: • Directly responsible for managing Atlas corporate safety plan and ensuring compliance by all employees. • Management of corporate quality control program. • Hiring and supervising of supervisors, managers and field personnel, to include training, assigning and directing work, appraising performance, disciplining, and resolving problems. • Preparation of operational business plan, and analyzing monthly safety and financial performance of Atlas to determine changes in operations required to achieve business plan. • Preparation of project budgets and detailed job cost reviews. • Management oversight of Atlas owned and rented equipment fleet, including but not limited to, shop facilities, scheduling, and capital repair oversight to optimize field utilization and maximize profits. • Establishing and maintaining Atlas customer relationships. • Participating in estimating of bids and proposals. • Other duties as assigned by the VP-COO, Atlas executives and RailAmerica executives. Qualifications: • Ability to communicate effectively by letter, telephone and personal interview with Atlas and RailAmerica senior management, employees, customers, railroads, and regulatory officials. • Superior knowledge of railroad construction industry, including, but not limited to, maintenance of way, equipment utilization, labor productivity, and submittal activities. • Exceptional management and leadership skills to effectively build a team environment. • Ability to excel at reading and interpreting documents such as construction plans and specifications, safety rules, and operational financial reports. • Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university preferred; or two years of related experience may be substituted for each year of college. • Intermediate computer skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and a project scheduling program (Suretrak or MS Project). • Must be able and willing to travel up to 50%.
